The Voice in Ministry Vocal Approach

Hello my name is Dionne and I am a voice coach and worship leader. Welcome to my website, Voice in Ministry, where you can find information about my courses and lessons, as well as, a few books and videos I offer to help with your vocal development.

If you’ve found me, it’s probably because you’re struggling with some area of your voice or want to improve your singing.

If that's you, you’re in the right place.

I’ve been coaching for nearly 20 years and leading worship for just as many, and genuinely understand the vocal issues that come with singing.

Over those years I have learnt that every area of the voice is rooted in biblical principles. From breath to practice, the bible can teach us how to steward our voice for ministry.

more than vocal coaching...

The 8 Pillars of VIM Vocal Coaching

Breath (Life) - “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6

Tongue (Influence) - Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.” James 3:3-5

Diction (Communication) - “Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying?” 1 Corinthians 14:9

Blend (Unity) - “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12

Recovery (Rest) - “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31

Dynamic (Discernment)
-There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

Warm Up (Preparation )
- “The horse is made ready for the day of battle...” Proverbs 21:31

Practice (Skill) - Chenaniah was chosen to lead in song because he was skilful at it... 1 Chronicles 15:22

The VIM Approach - or method- to coaching combines timeless biblical principles of stewardship with a sound understanding of vocal anatomy.

I believe that Scripture gives us principles through which we can understand the voice, its purpose, its use and its care.

The Voice in Ministry Method

Everything we teach follows four simple movements.

  • Understand

Learn how the voice has been designed and how it functions as one coordinated instrument.

  • Develop

Build healthy vocal habits through practical technique, consistent practice and growing awareness.

  • Steward

Care for the voice with wisdom through preparation, recovery and healthy vocal choices that support long-term ministry.

  • Minister

Use the voice confidently and faithfully to communicate God's truth and lead others in worship.

Technique is only part of the journey - faithful ministry is the final destination!

Our Commitment

VIM is committed to developing healthy voices, faithful stewards and confident communicators.

We believe that when worship leaders understand the instrument God has designed, develop it with excellence and steward it with wisdom, they are better equipped to serve His Church and communicate His truth.

Because the voice is more than an instrument.

It is a gift entrusted to us for ministry.

Our Belief

At Voice in Ministry, we believe the voice is more than an instrument - it is a God-designed gift, entrusted to us for ministry.

Every voice has been intentionally created by God with purpose. It enables us to communicate with each other, lead worship, encourage others and proclaim the Gospel. Like every gift God entrusts to us, our voice deserves to be understood, developed and stewarded with wisdom.

We believe that caring for the voice is not simply a matter of vocal improvement; it is an act of faithful stewardship.

Our Philosophy

The human voice is a remarkable instrument because it reflects God's intentional design.

Healthy singing is not achieved by forcing one part of the voice to work harder than another. Instead, it is the result of many systems working together according to their design.

  • Breath supports the sound.

  • The vocal folds create vibration.

  • Resonance shapes tone.

  • The tongue, lips and jaw form words.

Each part has a unique role, yet none functions effectively in isolation.

Just as Scripture teaches that the body has many parts working together for one purpose, so the voice reaches its fullest potential when every part works in harmony according to its design.

For us, vocal technique is not separate from faith.

Understanding how the voice works helps us appreciate the wisdom of our Creator, whilst developing healthy technique enables us to steward His gift with greater excellence, confidence and longevity.

We believe the instrument itself reflects a theology of purpose, design and stewardship.

Our Mission

Voice in Ministry exists to equip worship leaders and Christian singers to steward the voice God has entrusted to them.

Through the integration of vocal science, practical technique and biblical principles, we help individuals understand, develop and care for their voices so they can communicate God's truth with clarity, confidence and excellence.

Our mission is not just to help people sing better. Our mission is to help people minister more effectively by faithfully stewarding the voice God has given them.

more than vocal coaching...

"When skilfulness unites with understanding, the voice truly becomes an expression of the heart."

1 Chronicles 15v22 - Skilfulness
1 Corinthians 14:15 - Understanding

"Thank you Dionne for believing in me and pushing me when I wanted to throw in the towel. That Battle is the Lord's song by Yolanda Adams was chosen by you for me...the tears I shed because I didn't think it was right for me makes me laugh even as I type lol....Being crowned the time2shine winner back in 2012 was very much down to the efforts you put in and in particular that song you picked. I thank God for your life and where he has taken you to. Keep reaching for greatness and believing that the battle is truly the Lords come what may. x" - Boma Diri
