This is the Air I Breathe
10 Facts Every Worship Leader Should Know About Breath.

Let’s Talk About Breath… Again.
What can I say about breath that hasn’t already been said a thousand times by vocal coaches everywhere? Honestly—not much. But here’s the thing: you can’t sing (or speak!) without it, and sometimes we just need the reminder.
Why Breath Matters in Singing
Breath is the engine room of your voice. It’s what powers your sound, supports your tone, and helps you hit the notes you’re aiming for.
Here are a few things worth remembering:
Your lungs fuel your voice—no breath, no sound.
Breath is power—but too much can blow out your tone, and too little will leave you strained and sore.
Your voice box filters and shapes breath into sound and gives it intensity.
You can learn to control your breath using your voice box—it's not just automatic.
Physical energy supports your breath, especially when aiming for higher notes or long phrases.
Your articulators (tongue, teeth, lips, nose) help regulate airflow.
Warm-ups improve breath control and vocal stamina.
Singing through a straw (like the Rayvox Singing Straw) is a great way to train consistent breath flow.
Now, depending on who you ask, breath is either something you train consciously—or something that kicks in automatically. But whichever school of thought you follow, one thing is universally true:
👉 You need breath to sing. So you need to know how to manage it.
Think about the last time your voice cracked, you sang flat, or got that tickle in your throat mid-song. Often, the root cause is poor breath control.
